“Through my writing, I hope to make a change, however small, in my readers —regardless of whether that change is to love themselves more, to shift their perspective on life, or something else altogether.”

A Writer With a Passion for All Things Speculative Fiction

Khaila A. Gentle was born in Belize City, Belize, and has spent most of her life there. At age 11, during a trip to her grandma’s home in Queens, she was gifted her first novel – The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. Soon after, she would begin writing her own stories, quickly realizing that she had a deep-rooted passion for the craft and an affinity for all things speculative fiction. Later, she discovered the beauty of healing through poetry and developed a love for the art form.

The themes of her work run the gamut from love and heartbreak to depression, healing, and identity. Her dedication to the craft of writing has seen her don many hats, including reporter for AMANDALA Newspaper, Editorial Director of Caribbean Culture + Lifestyle Magazine, and, most recently, full-time freelance writer.

Since self-publishing her first-ever collection of poems, Crossroads, in 2021, Khaila’s writing has been featured in various publications, including Harness Magazine, Lonely Planet Magazine, Lonely Planet Kids, and Bent Pin Press.

Today, she makes a living writing while working on her novels, short stories, and poetry. In her free time, she enjoys watching old anime and creating Spotify playlists to share with her friends.
